The land
already knows
what it wants.

We grade slopes, route water, and set every stone with the precision of a jeweler. Your half-acre of clay becomes a living composition.

The Process

From aerial to
the grain of the stone.

Four phases. Each one a deeper layer of the same project, until you feel you've walked the garden yourself.

Deliverable

Topographic survey + drainage analysis

Phase 01 · 1–2 weeks

Site Reading

We spend more time listening to your land than measuring it. Soil cores, drainage mapping, sun-angle surveys at every hour.

Every grading decision begins with understanding where water already wants to go. We work with the land's existing logic, not against it.

Phase 02 · 3–5 weeks

Design Development

Hand-drawn concept plans evolve into construction-ready documents. Material palettes are selected stone by stone.

We produce full-scale planting plans, grading plans, lighting layouts, and irrigation schematics. Boutique developers receive photorealistic renderings before a shovel breaks ground.

Phase 03 · 4–12 weeks

Installation

Our crews work in silence. Each bluestone is set level by eye before the laser confirms it. Plants arrive in our trucks, not a nursery's.

We self-perform all grading, stonework, and planting. No subcontractors for the precision work. The foreman on day one is the foreman on the last day.

04

Deliverable

Seasonal care log + plant replacement guarantee

Phase 04 · 12 months

First Season Care

A garden's first year determines the next twenty. We return monthly to adjust, edit, and coax the planting into its character.

This isn't maintenance — it's design continuation. We replace plants that refuse their position, edit density where nature overachieves, and document the seasonal arc for your records.

Margaret Holloway

Homeowner

"We handed them a bare slope of compacted clay with a drainage problem that had defeated two other firms. Terrain read the land for a week before drawing a single line. What they built three months later was something we could never have imagined standing in that mud."

David Osei-Bonsu

Principal Architect, Bonsu Atelier

"As an architect, I design buildings that need the land to rise up and meet them. Every other landscape firm I've worked with treats the site as leftover space. Terrain treats it as the primary material. The Ridgeline project sold at 22% above our pro forma — the garden did that."

Development Director, Waverly Partners

"Our buyers were choosing between three comparable projects on the same street. The Waverly streetscape renderings Terrain produced before we broke ground became our entire sales presentation. We sold out 9 weeks before completion."
